Pardubice is an place ideal for active recreation, sport, relaxation and fun. Pardubice has rich history dating back to the 13th century. The entire city, the Pernstyn Square, Pardubice Chateau and the nearby Kunetice Mountain Castle can be viewed after climbing up the Green Gate viewing tower. Several times a year, the historic centre of Pardubice revives with traditional events and, thanks to the production of gingerbread, which dates back to the 16th century, Pardubice is known as the city of gingerbread. The racing season begins in Pardubice in early May, culminating with the toughest European horse race - the Great Pardubice Steeplechase. Every second weekend in October it is regularly viewed by tens of thousands of spectators from all over the world. Because of that the city boasts the title of the City of Horses.

Pardubice is the metropolis of the Pardubice region, being with an area of almost 78 km2 and its 90 thousand citizens the tenth largest city in the Czech Republic.

Pardubice is currently proud not only of its long tradition of horseracing and gingerbread production, but also of the international speedway Golden Helmet race, the tennis Junior cup, the wine-making half-marathon and many other events organised during the year. Cycling fans will find there a dense network of cycle paths and trails, whilst horseback riding lovers will find paths they can go riding  into the near and distant surroundings.
