Horses

A genuine culture of horses has emerged in Waregem over the years. Horses and Waregem are inextricably linked in many areas, from sport to infrastructure to culture. Gaverbeek Hippodrome and the Sport.Vlaanderen centre are focal points. They bring many equestrian events to Waregem, from harness racing to eventing to, of course, the Waregem Races. But horses also inspire many works of art in the streets of Waregem. You even find these noble animals in the names of the city’s streets: Ruitersdreef means ‘Riders’ Avenue’, Zadelstraat means ‘Saddle Street’... There are even references to the world of horses in the corridors of our hospital, where you can walk down the Hoefslag - hoof print - or Amazonelaan.
